CALCIUM - IMPORTANCE OF CALCIUM IN OUR DIET

Calcium is an important mineral children and adults should try to get through a healthy diet or even supplements. It helps in formation of blood cells and keep bones healthy. For calcium to be absorbed by our body, make sure you get enough vitamin D through sunlight or food. Women have to take extra care and ensure they take calcium. What happens is that, during menstrual cycle and childbirth, calcium reserves get depleted.
If you feel you are not getting enough calcium from your diet and want to include calcium supplements, do consult your doctor so he can advise you which one and how much to take.  Here are calcium rich foods you can choose from and make them a part of your daily diet.

* Milk
* Yoghurt
* Almonds
* Aragula
* Soy milk
* White beans
* Oatmeal
* Salmon
*Orange
* Tofu (from soy milk)
* Sesame seeds
* Brazil nuts
* Prawns
* Green leafy vegetables (spinach, turnip)
* Broccoli
* Dried Figs
* Cheese (parmesan, cheddar) - do remember, to consume cheese in moderation as its fattening!
